Hilarie Ross Burton was born on July 1st, 1982 in Sterling, Virginia, USA to Bill Burton, a former Green Beret, and Lisa Burton, a real estate agent. She is the oldest of 4 children with 3 brothers named Billy, Johnny and Conrad. She graduated from Park View High School in 2000, where she was student council treasurer her second year, vice-president her junior year and captain of the cheerleading squad, student council president, and homecoming queen her senior year. Hilarie attended New York University and Fordham University.

Hilarie married One Tree Hill assistant director Ian Prange, son of executive producer Greg Prange, in 2004, during her time on One Tree Hill. They resided in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the show was filmed. The couple divorced in 2009.

In 2009, Hilarie was set up with Jeffrey Dean Morgan by her friend Danneel Ackles who is married to Jensen Ackles who played Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s son on CW’s Supernatural. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Augustus Morgan in March 2010.

Professional Life

Hilarie started her career in 2000 as a VJ for MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL). Although, she was only meant to be a guest commentator for one segment, the producers decided to offer her a permanent job. In 2003, when she got her role on One Tree Hill in North Carolina, she split her time and worked Monday through Thursday on One Tree Hill and then returned every Friday back to New York to work on TRL.

In 2002, Hilarie made her television debut, playing herself on The WB drama Dawson’s Creek. She shared her scene with Chad Michael Murray who later became her co-star and love interest on One Tree Hill.

In April 2003, Hilarie was cast in The WB drama series One Tree Hill, portraying the role of Peyton Sawyer, a fiercely independent visual and musical artist and cheerleader. The series premiered on September 23, 2003 and was the network’s top rated program of the year. The role of Peyton Sawyer was considered Hilarie’s breakout role and is her best-known to date. Her performance received critical praise and earned her four Teen Choice Award nominations. After 6 years of playing Peyton Sawyer, Hilarie decided not to return for a seventh season. In December 2015, she starred in another Lifetime Christmas movie Last Chance for Christmas, playing single mom Annie who is trying to save her Reindeer farm with a little help from Santa’s helper.

In the same year, she was cast on the FOX cop drama Lethal Weapon, playing Karen Palmer, a straightforward DEA agent who means business and takes her job as a DEA agent very seriously. She appears in a few episode in the first season and then comes back for two more episodes in the second season. Due to her pregnancy she couldn’t be on for more but Hilarie has expressed her desire to come back because she really enjoys playing this character and working with the cast.

In Summer 2016, she appeared in her third Hallmark movie Summer Villa opposite Victor Webster. Hilarie played a single mom and best-selling author Terry Russell who goes to France to get some inspiration for her new book only to find that her editor’s brother, cocky, hot-shot New York chef, Matthew Everston is also staying at the same house.
